October 2005
Dear Visitor,
It seems that every time I write this newsletter,
another tragedy has occurred somewhere in the world.
I don’t know if I have any readers in Kashmir,
but I do know that many, many people in Britain have
family and friends in Pakistan and India, and if
anyone reading this has been affected by the earthquake,
my thoughts are with you. War certainly seems pointless
when nature can inflict such terrible damage.
If I may turn to entirely unserious matters now,
I really must apologise to all of last month’s
prize-winners – you had to wait forever for
your prizes, and I really don’t have an excuse
at all. The time just seemed to evaporate – and
even this newsletter is a fortnight late. I do hope
that all the UK winners have now received their prizes,
and the US winners shouldn’t have too long
to wait. Once again, I apologise.
But – on the plus side – I have updated
the George page at last, so you can see him enjoying
what good weather we had. By good weather, I mean
sunny and pleasant – not just hot. We can do
hot – but it tends to be hot and a bit overcast.
And I swear it gets hotter at night – that
doesn’t seem to make sense, but it does. We
are currently enjoying a bit of an Indian summer,
though, so that’s good.
Well – we were, when I wrote that last paragraph,
but that was a couple of days ago, and now it’s
pouring everywhere. Never mind.
My US readers might be pleased to hear that I’ve
received the proofs of the paperback edition of Unlucky
For Some, so it’s one step nearer to being
published. I think it’s due out in December.
I’m really sorry that the newsletter is coming
in so late, but once again I will let this one run
through next month, and I will try very hard to update
the site during the first week of December.
Thank you so much for bearing with me – I
hope you think it’s worth it when number 14
finally makes its appearance!
Love,
Jill
